How It Works

A bar of soap is on your skin for about sixty seconds and then it goes down the drain. So the fair question, and the one we are asked most, is how it does anything at all. Here is the whole answer, including the parts that are not flattering.

What GHK-Cu actually is

GHK-Cu is a copper peptide. Peptide means a short chain of amino acids, and this one is three of them, glycine, histidine and lysine, bound to a copper ion. That is where the name comes from.

The important thing about it is that your own body makes it. It was not invented in a laboratory and introduced to human skin. It was found in human plasma in 1973 and it has been studied ever since.

Its job is signalling. GHK-Cu is one of the messages your skin uses to tell itself to get on with repair. It is associated with collagen and elastin production, with the remodelling of damaged tissue, and with calming inflammation. It does not do the repair work itself. It tells the repair work to happen.

The problem is supply. GHK-Cu levels in human plasma fall substantially with age, with the steepest drop happening across your twenties and thirties. Your skin does not lose the ability to respond to the signal. It just stops receiving it as often.

That is the entire reason anyone puts GHK-Cu back on or into their skin. You are not adding something foreign. You are topping up a message your body used to send for itself.

The molecule is not the hard part

Here is something the industry does not lead with. GHK-Cu is not rare, it is not proprietary, and no brand owns it. You can buy it as an injectable, as a serum, as drops, as a powder to reconstitute yourself. It is the same molecule in every one of them.

So if the molecule is settled, the only thing left to compete on is what it costs you to take it.

Injections work. They also ask you for a needle, a dose to measure, a sterile technique to get right, and, for most people, bruising and small lumps you end up planning your week around. Serums work. They ask you for a step you have to remember every single day, on top of the steps you already forget.

And that is where almost everybody fails. Copper peptide works on consistency rather than intensity. It is a signal, and a signal repeated is worth more than a signal shouted once. Most people who give up on peptides do not give up because the product was too weak. They give up because week three arrived and they stopped.

We did not set out to make a better copper peptide. That is not a race anyone can win. We set out to make one you would still be using in six months.

So we put it in the one thing nobody skips

You already shower. You did it yesterday, you will do it tomorrow, and you have never once had to set a reminder for it. It is the most reliable habit most adults have.

Putting the peptide there means the routine cannot fail, because there is no routine to build. Nothing is added to your day. Nothing has to be remembered. The compliance problem, which is the real reason skincare does not work for people, simply does not arise.

Three reasons a bar of soap can do this

Sixty seconds and a rinse sounds like nothing. Three things make it not nothing.

1. It is real GHK-Cu, at a real concentration

Not a trace added so the word can appear on the label, which is common and worth knowing about. This is the same copper peptide people inject, at a level that does something, and every batch is confirmed against a certificate of analysis before it ships. We hold a US lab report for the formula.

We do not print the exact percentage on the front of the pack, and we will say plainly why. A number on the front invites a race to the biggest number, and with copper peptide a bigger number is not automatically a better outcome. What matters is that the peptide is genuinely present, that it survives contact with the rest of the formula, and that it is still intact when it reaches you. If you want to ask us about it directly, get in touch and we will answer.

2. pH 5.5 keeps the peptide alive

This is the part almost nobody talks about, and it is the reason most copper peptide soaps could not work even if they wanted to.

Copper peptides are not stable at high pH. They come apart. And ordinary soap, by the nature of how soap is made, sits at pH 9 to 10. Put GHK-Cu into a normal bar and the peptide is degraded long before the bar ever reaches a bathroom, let alone your face.

AZUR is measured at pH 5.5, which is matched to healthy skin. That number is doing two jobs at once. It keeps the peptide intact so there is something left to deliver, and it means the bar does not strip your acid mantle, which is the protective layer that leaves your skin feeling tight and reactive an hour after an ordinary wash.

One decision, two problems solved. It is the single most important specification in the formula.

3. The base leaves something behind

Most soap is built on harsh sulfates. Sulfates are extremely good at lifting oil, and they do not distinguish between the oil you want gone and the oil your skin made on purpose. That is the tight feeling.

AZUR is built on grass fed tallow, shea butter and olive oil. These are close enough to the lipids your own skin produces that they behave differently in water. Rather than stripping everything and leaving, they deposit on the skin as you rinse.

That is the mechanism that makes the sixty seconds count. The peptide does not have to work in sixty seconds. It goes down with the lipids and stays on your skin after the water has gone, and it keeps working while you are getting dressed and while you are at work.

It is also why your face does not feel tight afterwards, which you will notice from the very first wash, long before anything visible has changed.

What to expect, and when

We would rather set this out honestly than have you give up in week two because nothing has happened yet.

The first few washes

You will feel a difference before you see one. Less tight, less squeaky, calmer coming out of the shower. This is the base, not the peptide, and it happens immediately.

Weeks one to two

Texture starts to settle. Skin feels smoother under your own hand before it looks different in a mirror. Congestion along the jaw often begins to calm here.

Weeks three to five

This is where visible change usually turns up. Roughly one full skin cycle plus a little. Tone evens out, redness settles, fine lines read softer because the skin around them is better hydrated and less rough.

Beyond that

It keeps building as long as you keep going, and it fades if you stop. GHK-Cu is a signal, not a permanent alteration. That is a feature rather than a limitation, because nothing here is being done to you that you cannot simply stop doing.

How to use it

  • On your face. Work the lather up in your hands first and apply that, rather than running the bar directly across your skin. Thirty to sixty seconds, then rinse.
  • On your body. Straight from the bar is fine. Pay attention to chest, back and shoulders if that is where you break out.
  • On your hair. Lather through the roots and mid lengths and rinse fully. If your hair is long or colour treated, follow with your usual conditioner.
  • When. Whenever you already shower. Once a day suits most people, twice is fine.
  • Order. After any scrub or exfoliant, before whatever you normally apply afterwards. It sits underneath everything, so your serums, retinol, vitamin C and moisturiser all stay exactly as they are.
  • Storage. Somewhere it can drain and dry between showers. A bar left sitting in water will not last half as long.

If your skin reacts to almost everything, use it every other day for the first week and then move to daily.

What it will not do

  • It is not permanent. It works while you use it. We think that is the right way round, because it means nothing is being decided for you.
  • It is not faster than a needle. If pure speed is what you want, injections are the honest answer and we would rather say so than sell you the wrong thing. What we are offering is the version you will actually keep doing.
  • It is not a sunscreen. Nothing here protects you from UV, and UV is the largest single input into how your skin ages. Wear sunscreen.
  • It will not fix everything in a week. Give it thirty days. If your skin has not changed by then, we refund you and you keep the bar.
